Transition to Contracted EMS Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Village of Theresa, Wisconsin

November 21, 2025

Village of Theresa Announces Transition to Contracted EMS Services Beginning January 1, 2026.

After extensive discussion, careful review, and multiple open public meetings, the Village of Theresa has made the difficult but necessary decision to transition away from the current Theresa EMS service due to ongoing staffing shortages and increasing financial challenges.

The Village will officially begin contracted EMS services with the City of Mayville on January 1, 2026.

To ensure uninterrupted emergency medical coverage between now and the contract start date, Mayville EMS has agreed to provide gap coverage for all EMS needs in the Village of Theresa. This arrangement guarantees that public safety remains fully supported and that no lapse in emergency care occurs during the transition.

“We want to thank the members of Theresa EMS for their years of dedication and service to our community,” the Village stated. “This decision was not made lightly. However, the inability to maintain adequate staffing levels and the financial strain on the service left us with no viable path forward in its current form.”

Looking ahead, the Village is exploring the development of an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program within Theresa. This future EMR service would operate locally and work in partnership with Mayville EMS to supplement contracted ambulance services, strengthen response capabilities, and continue improving the safety net for all residents.

The Village Board remains committed to transparency throughout this process and will continue providing updates as plans advance.
